( Early in the evening, Chise will hear a knock at her door. Basil's decided to surprise her with a visit with Marigold following closely behind. He's hiding some flowers behind his back, albeit a bit poorly.

He just hopes he isn't interrupting anything important... )

[Chise answers the door in a hurry. Her gaze widens, though not unpleasantly, as she takes in who is on the other side.]

Basil! Come on in! I-is everything alright? More importantly, you aren’t freezing, are you?

[Her worry takes over as she rushes to bring him into the Cottage. It was still pretty cold out, and when the sun started to set it only got worse. Still, her gaze seemed happy… even if her hair and clothing was peppered with various flour and dark stains…]

( The smile he offers is a little uncertain. He hadn't meant to worry her. )

A-Ah, yeah... Everything is okay, don't worry. I'm sorry to drop by unannounced...

( He steps inside, hoping to keep the flowers hidden. Marigold runs inside, too - shaking her small body in an attempt to shake the cold off.

He feels the way that his cheeks heat up, avoiding her gaze for a moment. )

Uhm... I-I just wanted to give you something...

[Chise instantly relaxes once she’s reassured that Basil is alright. Bending down, she holds out a hand for Marigold to sniff, if desired.]

Ah, I’m glad. [Her cheeks lightly dust in a blush. He… came all this way to give her something? This felt important somehow, so she stood back up, attempting to meet his gaze.] A-ah, is that so? Thank you. [She’s thanking him even before she opened it.]

You don't have to think me! I'm always happy to give you something special. Uhm... I-I just hope you like it.

( Marigold chirps happily, rubbing against Chise's hand with a gentle rumble. It seems as though Marigold likes Chise...

Basil shifts a bit then, revealing what was hidden behind his back -- a bouquet of flowers that he had put together with various flowers - orchids, dahlias, yellow roses, and sunflowers. )

Happy Valentine's Day, Chise.

I’m sure I will. You’re a good judge when it comes to gifts… and people.

[She smiled gently. Cats really did seem to like her for some reason… she hoped that meant she was as half a decent person as Basil was. As he brought the flowers from behind his back, her eyes widened, and her smile blossomed into something brighter.]

Are these for me? I love them! [Chise really could be considered simple, but it was the little things in life that she cherished.]

Ah, wait right here! [She hesitated for just a moment before placing a small kiss on his cheek, retreating quickly into the kitchen.]

( He can't help but smile when Chise seems to be happy with the flowers, but stops the moment that she tells him to wait. Marigold quickly follows behind her with a quiet meow. )

Ah, okay... I'll be right here, Chise.

( Whatever it was, he's just glad she seems to like his present. )

[Chise retreated back into the kitchen. When she realized Marigold had followed her, she smiled, putting a finger to her lips.]

Be sure not to ruin the surprise, ok?

[It took a few minutes to get things together - and a few extra to rummage through the cabinets - but Chise came rushing back out with two items: one was a vase filled with water for the flowers, and the other was a box, the top tied with a bright green bow.

Blushing, she put the flowers gently into the vase, setting them on the entryway table before holding the box out to Basil.]

I-I…tried my best, though I admit it’s the first time I’ve ever done something like this… [Her face is flushed from a mixture of happiness, embarrassment, and nerves. If Basil opens the box, he will find several homemade chocolates in the shapes of various flowers. They are a little wonky, and haven’t fully cooled yet, but she put all of her effort into them.]

( Chise returns, and Basil can't help but look at the box curiously as he reaches for it. Carefully opening it, his face lights up as he takes in all the chocolates. They aren't perfect, but there's enough love put into them that his can't help but feel overjoyed. )

Wow...

These are really cute, Chise... Thank you, I love them!

( He leans forward, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.

... They really were cute. He almost didn't want to eat them... )

[The kiss has her smiling even brighter. She really was easy to please…]

A-ah, I’m glad! Where I come from originally, it’s a tradition to give chocolate to the person you love. A-and, even though I’ve never done it before, I wanted to, and something homemade always seems more special to me…

I just hope they taste alright… [She really didn’t have that much experience making chocolate, though she had asked her housemates around the Cottage for advice.]

( He can't help but smile softly at that, face darkening a bit. )

I love you, too...

( They're words that he's said before, but they still feel so special to him. )

I'd love anything that you'd make, Chise! And, you've always been really good at everything that you do...

( He pauses, looking away a bit nervously. )

Uhm... D-Did you want to spend some time together?

[No matter how many times she heard those words or reciprocated… they were special.

Three simple words, and yet they meant the world to her (mostly because of who they were coming from, too).

She gently takes one of his hands, careful that both of them don’t drop their belongings, and smiles.]

I’d like that.
